Happiness is a warm puppy, a purring kitten, a bubbling goldfish, a slithering lizard…or a great book. Whether you like to take in your stories and information via printed books, ebooks, or audiobooks, you probably already know that reading, like caring for a pet, is one of life's greatest pleasures. Reading for fun on a regular basis also improves your chances for success in school and in life.

Keep track of your recreational reading with the Carmel Clay Public Library this summer and you'll also get the fun of picking out a couple of Summer Souvenirs, entering a variety of drawings for gift cards to local stores, and choosing a free book to keep from the Book Vault. This year's Summer Souvenirs include ear bud sets, highlighter sets, dog bone candy, eerie eyeballs, and more! If you read 1000 pages to complete the program, you will also receive coupons for a treat at Applebee's and a treat at Orange Leaf.

Also new this year: Keep track of your reading online AND see what your friends are reading.

If you prefer the paper-only version of the Young Adult Summer Reading Program, please come to the Young Adult Services desk at the library to register beginning June 1.

Here are the Young Adult Summer Reading Program stages:

___ Sign up = A $1 library fine reduction coupon good for one year.
___ 100 pages = choose one Summer Souvenir or one Grab Bag
___ 200 pages = choose one Summer Souvenir or one Grab Bag
___ 300 pages = enter the Summer Raffle of your choice
___ 400 pages = enter the Summer Raffle of your choice
___ 500 pages = enter the Summer Raffle of your choice
___ 600 pages = enter the Summer Raffle of your choice
___ 700 pages = enter the Summer Raffle of your choice
___ 800 pages = enter the Summer Raffle of your choice
___ 900 pages = enter the Summer Raffle of your choice
___1000 pages = Congratulations! You have completed the program and may choose a free book to keep from The Vault. You will also receive a coupon from Applebees AND a coupon from Orange Leaf for free treats (while supplies last.)

Voracious Reader option: Read 5000 pages. Here are the Voracious Reader stages:

___ 2000 pages = enter the Summer Raffle of your choice
___ 3000 pages = enter the Summer Raffle of your choice
___ 4000 pages = enter the Summer Raffle of your choice
___ 5000 pages = Congratulations! You have completed the program and may choose a second free book to keep from The Vault.

All drawings for raffle prizes will be held after the library closes on the last day of the Young Adult Summer Reading Program: Wednesday, August 4, 2011. Staff will notify the winners.
